Everything you need to know

Fantastic, you are interested in working with me as your celebrant for your special day so, let’s get started.

There are just a few things we need to check out to make sure all is good to go:

Is your ceremony over a month away?

The law requires you to give a celebrant at least 1 month and 1 day’s advanced notice. There are some exceptions, I can provide more information.

  • Are both of you all clear to be married?
  • Are either of you still legally married?
  • Are both of you over 18?

If not, I can tell you what you need to do.

ALL GOOD?

Great, we’re now ready to get going.

The first thing to do, is for the both of you to meet at an initial appointment to complete the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). This can be found on the Attorney Generals web page:

https://www.ag.gov.au/FamiliesAndMarriage/Marriage/Pages/Forms.aspx#_Download

At this stage you don’t need to have anything too definite for your ceremony just yet, only a date and a location. Even if you don’t have either of these it’s all good.

For our first appointment, you will need the following items:

  • A copy of your original birth certificate or Passport.
  • Some photo evidence to prove who you say you are (driver’s licence or something similar)
  • A great smile… I’ll bring mine too 🙂

Any ideas you have about the kind of ceremony you want, or aspects you wish to include, please brings these along to our meeting so I can begin to understand what you are after. This will help me build a ceremony to what you want it to be.

If you do somehow find out you can’t get married for some reason, please don’t let this deter you, as I am also allowed to perform a commitment ceremony.
